For the past few weeks Mini has been working on core classes using the Complete Home Learning Suite from Essential Skills Advantage. The Complete Home Learning Suite is a one year online supplement program for K through grade 6. It offers over 14,000 online activities to reenforce what your child has learned.
The program allows Mini to work at her own pace on whichever level she’s on. She can do 6th grade Geography, 5th grade Reading, and 3rd grade Math. She is able to login and go right to where she left off. The program lets her know how she’s doing immediately, so she knows if she’s doing well or not. She’s not been happy with the extra work even if it was fun.
When you log onto ESA, you’ll notice that the curriculum is very organized and easy to sort through. It’s separated by Reading, Spelling, Language Arts, and Math. Your child will be able to get a well-rounded education from the curriculum available through ESA. Let’s not forget about science and geography lessons given to those who are in 3-6!
Reading – K-6: Phonics and reading comprehension.
Spelling – Grades 1-6: Fun with Spelling and Spelling Stumpers.
Language & Grammar – Grades 3-6: Writing fundamentals, vocabulary, grammar and creative writing.
Math – Grades K-6: Complete math, operations, and concepts.
Science – Grades K-3: Earth & space, physical and life sciences.
Geography – Grades 3-5: Map & globe skills, World, American & Canadian geography.
Learning During Play
I’m big on learning while playing. It’s especially important for us on the hard days. Before we reach meltdown stage I can set Mini up on the computer and she can play which seems a lot less like school. She knows it’s still school but we aren’t trying to force anything to work.
I am able to look at the reports to see how well Mini did on the lessons she’s working on. That way I know where she’s still struggling. This also makes it easy for me to print out so that I have it in our homeschool logs. I’m also able to check everything from my mobile phone which I love!!!!
Using Essential Skills Advantage, Mini really loved the idea of going at her own pace. Sometimes I feel pressure from the outside world to make sure she knows a certain amount of stuff. However, with this she can work on things as she wants, which is a huge plus for our family. Of course, we still place our own deadlines and such, but it’s nice to have that option. It’s easy to use and while it is a supplement its meaty enough to count as school.
School days can be hard and we all need something that is fun but still provides learning as a backup. Well I do anyway. Life with Mini can be hard!
As we head into Summer ESA will be a great way to keep kids learning without seeming like they are actually doing school work. The bonus will be not needing as much review because they’ve not forgotten anything.
